Our most valued asset is our people. That’s why we are looking for a Director of People to join our team. You’ll be the first HR hire at Nybll and should be excited about contributing at both hands-on and strategic levels, and have a proven track record of positively growing and  influencing teams and their leaders. The Director of People will be responsible for our systems, processes, tools, and compliance, and will manage hiring, benefits, training, coaching and the onboarding/offboarding of new employees.

Nybll is one of the fastest-growing services around with kitchens in Burbank, OC, and the Bay Area. We are leading the way in healthy corporate and professional sports team catering serving award-winning meals to top tech companies and star athletes. Nybll touts over 150 menu themes that avoid the use of dairy, gluten and added refined sugars which often contribute to energy crashes during the work day. Also dedicated to eradicating food insecurity in the local  community, all unserved portions are repackaged and directed to those in need through Nybll’s 501c3, The Patra Project.

As our first HR hire, you will have the opportunity and responsibility to shape our thinking, to design our approach to HR, to deliver on our responsibilities to our people, and to make our team inspired, effective and productive. We have a large Spanish speaking workforce, so we are looking for someone who is bilingual.

You will

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner on people-related strategies and engagements across the organization.
  • Act as the conduit that brings together and keeps our team thriving, growing and happy
  • Drive our internal messaging and engagement.
  • Design and oversee compensation, benchmarking and leveling.
  • Propose and implement programs and processes that enable Nybll to scale as an organization.
  • Manage benefits, retention, incentives and performance management programs.
  • Utilize people metrics to drive key insights and decisions around growth and retention.
  • Build trust and strong internal relationships by making empathetic connections and understanding the needs of each team.
  • Manage our payroll and benefits system.
  • Approve and track time off and vacation time.
  • Own our onboarding and offboarding.
  • Ensure that Nybll  employment policies comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Train and hold leadership accountable to creating a healthy workplace
  • Build a company culture that embraces inclusion and diversity

Preferred qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years human resource experience, preferably in a restaurant group, food startup.
  • Bilingual- Spanish/English
  • Proficient at managing multi-location operations
  • Proactive, can operate autonomously, and thrives in ambiguity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Comfortable handling employee relations issues.
  • Solid understanding of federal and state employment regulations.
  • Excels at working on open-ended challenges and running them to completion.
